What is Duplex Steel
Duplex steel comprises grains of two stainless steel materials – Austenitic and Ferritic. “Duplex” refers to the two-phase microstructure of Austenitic and Ferritic steel grains.
Duplex stainless steels are about twice as strong and have significantly better toughness and ductility than regular ferritic stainless steels. In addition, they show very good stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. When considering Duplex stainless steel for heat Exchangers, typically, there is even more benefit. The lower nickel content of the Duplex grades means better thermal conductivity compared to the austenitic equivalent grade.
